My very first job was at a place called Market Street Cafe in Temple, Texas. This was my first job and I had not explored the world a lot then so I was not experienced enough to realize how good the food was there. It wasn't a giant place, it was owned by a local guy named Arlen Griner and his wife. I'm not exaggerating when I say at least 50 of my friends worked there the two-three years. I started off as a busboy and when I got a little experience I was able to be a cook. To us the cooks were like the big time guys who ran the place and were to be respected at all cost. Looking back they were just coos at a restaurant. On a busy night we would make between 300-400 plates. But this being my first job I thought all jobs would be this cool and all food would be this good. He had four items on the menu that I have till this day not found an equal to. First was the cheeseburger-just amazing. Then there was the chicken strip. He had a beer batter that he made himself that till this day I have not been able to replicate. After that was the club sandwich-turkey, ham, bacon, cheese lettuce and tomato-Oh man! I haven't found anything close to till this day. But last of all and something that I would do anything to learn how he made them was the baby back ribs. We first cooked them in a steam oven for like 4 hours after we rubbed them with this special rib rub that he concocted, then we cooked them on the grill and I think there was another step. But when they were served the meat just fell off the bone and tasted magnificent. I have not found anything anywhere close to these ribs till this day. I mean these ribs were a ten out of ten and the closest I've ever tasted after that were maybe a six.
It's just amazing to me that some of the best food I have ever tasted was from my first job in a little bitty town in the middle of Texas. Or maybe I just think that and it is some type of psychological effect.
The Artwork-This dude is cool. I like the way he's almost like a rectangular guy. But he just looks cool and he causes a lot of trouble. He's got that really cool looking collar, an awesome T-Shirt, his eyes look shifty like he's up to no good and it's all topped off by his green hair. I love this one.
Day 18 of the elliptical- Did another 60 minutes last night. This is two out of sixty days.
