I hope you enjoy these. For anyone who doesnt know, this is a year long project for myself where I write a blog entry a day. The artwork is something I did last year. Before 1/3/23 I had never drawn one thing in my entire life and then one day I decided to teach myself to draw and drew like 350 pictures last year. It's not just for me but also for Swift Moves in hopes of getting our rankings up on search engines. Does it work? Who knows. If anyone enjoys the artwork I post and wants me to send them an original, let me know and I'll send you a framed copy.
The last few days I have written about moving and the moving industry but today I can't think of anything to write about. How about what it's like to work for a bad moving company. Like the very first one I worked for. When I worked at the auction place we would interact with different companies from different industries and I got to know a man and wife who owned a moving company. When I quit the auction place (I was young and that's a mistake I don't regret but learned from) I started working there. I didn't last long. My very first day of work I got up at 5AM, took a bus to the shop and arrived by 8AM (like they asked) and waited until 10am when they finally showed up. They showed me a truck, threw me the keys and gave me an address. I luckily knew how to drive the stick shift but it did not have a first or second gear so it started off in third gear. It also had a giant hole in the floor by the shifter. I'm not exaggerating, it was probably an 8” hole in the floor that you could see the road as you drove. Mind you this was all waaaay before cell phones. The client was already not happy when we finally showed up two hours late and was not happy when I presented the bill because they low balled all of the estimates and made the drivers figure it out. The helper was drunk from drinking a six back the 30 minutes drive home. The next day was a long move, both of my helpers quit and I was on my own to find my own replacement helpers, luckily my friend came and gave me a hand. So just in the first two days-I was waiting two hours for the owners to get there, the truck was sub par to say the least, they had almost zero communication with the client about any expectations, myn helper was drunk by the time we got back and after my helpers quit they did not help me find a replacement; I think I lasted three weeks at the most. Thank goodness I got a job at another moving company that I would eventually help manage and they showed me the right way to do things. I wont say their names because they are still my competitors! So when I opened Swift Moves I took the knowledge of working for both ends of the spectrum and applied it to this place. I think it has worked out great because Swift Moves is a truly awesome place to work and if you hire us you will see we are truly an awesome company.
The Artwork-Continuing as much as I can with my Halloween theme-its Frankenstein! Well, Frankernsteins monster if you want to be specific. This was a pretty easy one to draw, there were not a lot of little details. I do like the bolts in his head, the giant scar going across his forehead, his long face and his hunchback.GHis tattered clothes are cool but what really sticks out to me on this one is how his arms are giant but his legs are like twigs. I also like the bright green. I hope you enjoy it!
Contest-This is an ongoing contest. It's a weird thing. On 6/27/24 we started with $10 then everyday I'm adding $1. The first person to call in or comment or message gets the money. Here's the kicker. You can either call in right now and get $10 (or whatever it happens to be this day) or wait till the next day when the money goes up. I think I have like 175 days left so the pot can get up to almost $200. It's free money, it's not a scam,
it's in the marketing budget. No employees or employee families are eligible. I hope you win! The total on 9/20/24 is $91.
In about a five days or so from now I will be starting a new workout routine to finish this year off. I'm really going to challenge myself and I am not even sure if I will be able to physically do it. I'm calling it the 100/100/100 challenge. As the days get closer I'm getting more excited but I'm also dreading it a little bit because it's going to be a challenge to myself that I've never even come close to doing. I'm getting old though and need to start taking better care of my body. I've been doing some very light workouts to get these old bones loosened up this week.
