The Time I Saw Two Guys Get Kicked Off A Bus In The Middle of Alabama at 1AM (Pre Cell phones)

The 142nd One 5/24/24

I hope you enjoy these. Leave a comment if you do. If you do, maybe I'll send you a gift!

This is probably one of the strangest things I've ever been a part of. It's the time two guys get kicked off a Greyhound bus at 1AM in the absolute middle of nowhere Alabama and I had something to do with it.

When I was taking my first trip to Florida from Texas in 1998 to see my friend who had just moved to St. Pete I boarded a bus in I think New Orleans (it could have been Mobile or Biloxi, but was right around there on I-10 headed East) at probably midnight. I got like the very last seat except for the very last row. On a Greyhound bus the very last row is up against the back of the bus and is the only row with three seats and then right beside the third seat is the restroom. Every other row has two seats on either side with the main  aisle down the middle. After I boarded this little old lady got on and the only seat left was the one in the very back. I saw her go back there and sit between two guys. No one thought anything of it, Greyhounds are weird places so we have no idea who this lady is and just kind of assume she knows the two weird guys she is sitting between.

About 20 minutes into the ride we hear some commotion and yelling like “it's my seat” “what are you doing” and other weird very vulgar stuff that I will not write on this forum. This yelling and grumling goes on for about 15 minutes and no one does anything. I finally get up and walk back like I'm using the bathroom. As I approach this lady gives me a look like “Im scared” and at that point I start staring at the guy closest to me with like daggers in my eyes. I didn't know what to do so I went to the facilities and took my seat which was about halfway up the bus. Then about ten minutes later it starts again. People are noticing but not saying anything. So I get up at 1230-1245 in the morning in front of the entire bus and yell to the back of the bus “Maam would you like my seat?”. She immediately got up and sat in my seat. I sat on the aisle in the middle on the ground. I start talking to this sweet old lady and she tells me she has no clue who these people are but she sat down and they started to yell at her and make rude comments, she said she thought they might be drunk. I will say they looked rough and both looked like they could kick my butt in a street fight. I was not the largest 19 year old but was pretty smart and way more brave and stupid than physically fit. So then I tell the lady she should go tell the bus driver what happened. She gets up, walks to the front and whispers something in his ear then comes and sits back down. We don't think anything of it and figure it would be taken care of at the next stop. By this time we are in the middle of Alabama and it's almost 1AM.

About 15 minutes later the driver takes an exit which is clearly in the middle of nowhere, I mean no where. Picture no where, add in Alabama at 1AM (No cell phones!) then picture more nowhere. No lights or houses or stores or street lights or anything. He pulls over to a picnic area, not a rest stop but a place with a table and two benches. He calmly gets up, opens the door, looks to the back of the bus and with words I'll never forget yells at the top of his lungs “YOU TWO IN THE BACK GET THE HELL OFF MY BUS!!!” Everyone was like silently freaking out and as the two guys were walking towards my seat I wasn't sure if these guys were going to stab me or punch me or what. But they just walked on by and got off the bus. Me and the lady promptly got up and walked to the back of the bus and for the rest of the trip had three seats for two people. That part was kind of nice. At the next stop a couple of people told me that was a nice thing I did and all that (all i'm thinking is “y'all sure didn't do anything”) but the Greyhound staff never asked me or the lady what happened. I could see what appeared to be some higher ups talking to the driver but they never asked us anything.  That was maybe the strangest part of the entire incident.

I hope this story made sense. It was one of the most unusual, weirdest things I've ever experienced. I think about it all the time. I had to take a Greyhound bus back to Texas about two weeks later and this counted as some karma in a way I cant put on paper.

The Artwork-Almost everyday I write about what I think is my favorite piece of artwork from last year and then we get something like today which I also think is my favorite one from last year. It's a turtle from Super Mario Bros!! And I don't mind saying so myself that this guy is almost perfect. Look at those eyes! And his shell! Then how his foot is in mid action like he's walking somewhere looks great. But most of all I think the colors match up perfectly to what it's supposed to be. Plus his smile looks amazing. I'm very proud of this one.

Day 36 of the elliptical-Day 19 (out of 60) of 60 minutes straight on the elliptical. I did all sixty minutes on setting four last night again!  I'm going to do setting four for a few more days then go up to setting five.
